MQA accreditation is one of the major considerations given by international students before they enrol in a programme. The relevant authorities in foreign countries will also consider sponsoring their students to pursue accredited programmes which have been recognised by the Malaysian government. The development of MQR is an initiative to help students, parents, funding agencies and employers to obtain information on quality-assured programmes and qualifications in Malaysian higher education institutions. The accurate information in MQR is important to enable these students to make an informed choice in order to avoid future problems.

It is important for students to know whether a particular programme has been accredited by MQA before embarking on a programme. This is important because an accredited programme has many advantages such as sponsorship by funding agencies, opportunity for further studies with credit transfer or employment in the public service.

Last but not least, I hope the information provided in the MQR will benefit all important stakeholders, both local and international.

Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)

I am pleased that the Malaysian Qualifications Register (MQR) has been developed by MQA.

MQR is a register of all qualifications which have been accredited by MQA. This register is important because it is the reference for all accredited programmes and qualifications. It is also a basis for credit transfer between programmes and qualifications because credit transfer can only be done between programmes which have been accredited.

Accreditation is a status or achievement in quality assessment for programmes which have been quality-assured by MQA. This accreditation status will be a reference to other parties for recognition of the programme and qualification for variety of purpose. For example, the Public Service Department (PSD) will use accreditation status based on the MQR listing as recognition for the purpose of employment in the public sector. I would like to urge all institutions to continue their effort to improve on the quality of their programmes in order to achieve accreditation from MQA. In addition to enhancing the reputation and value of the institutions, this commitment is also an indication of the support to make Malaysia a center of regional educational excellence.
